Superstitious Nonsense
Layle & Keiss [Double Drabble] Rated G
"The unluckiest man alive doesn't believe in luck."

“Keiss!” Layle shouted before grabbed the collar of his shirt, barely managing to save the Selkie before he could fall off an unstable cliff and down the side of the mountain. “I told you to be careful.”

“I was.” He scrambles to safety with the help of his partner. “That was close.”

His partner, competent as he is, has death looming over his shoulder. Without the crystal bearer around, he would have been devoured by fenrir after tripping or die in some other freak accident. It’s hard to believe the man who can hold his own against a behemoth would have such phenomenally bad luck. No matter how many wards Layle makes for him, Keiss always ends up moments from his own demise and barely survives.

“I don’t know if you’re lucky or unlucky...” He watches Keiss creep back towards the edge he almost fell over, still too curious for his own good. “...but I know that sometimes you’re just plain careless.”

“I am not.” Keiss stands with his feet halfway hanging over the edge of the cliff. “I don’t believe in superstitious nonsense. Luck has no power over me.”

And to his credit, this time Keiss did not fall.
